We believe nursery means a lot more than simple day care — children attending La Petite Nursery are “Preparing for Life”.Our mission is to make sure children receive support to express their inner talents, and to develop their own creativity and curiosity. How do we do that? By creating a warm, caring, safe and stimulating environment.At all times, we make sure to find the right balance between adult-led and children-led activities, ensuring that children are always learning through play. New Home

Set to open in September 2025, our new home will be on 12 Cambridge Gardens. This new building offers a historic venue with airy, light-filled rooms and an outdoor paradise for play and education, including a playground, forest school area, and communal gardens, all within walking proximity to parks and libraries.

Before breaking for the holidays, our children had the honor of visiting the Friendship Club to celebrate Chanukah together—continuing a cross-generational tradition that has brought so much joy in past years. It was truly heartwarming to see the little ones meet the elderly, sharing in the light of the menorah, singing, and dancing to Chanukah songs. 🎶

As the glow of the candles brought everyone closer, the children received a delightful surprise from the members of Lauderdale Road Synagogue: thoughtfully wrapped and signed beeswax crayons! 🖍️✨

Moments like these truly capture the essence of the season: community, connection, and celebration.

The La Petite team came together for a memorable Charismukkah party, filled with laughter, thoughtful gifts, and a few happy tears as we reflected on the incredible year we’ve shared. It was an evening of connection and celebration that reminded us why we feel so lucky to be part of this nursery family.❤️

Our little ones had an amazing day at the library, where they discovered a treasure trove of books and stories!

Each child had the exciting opportunity to choose a book we’ll take back to the nursery with our new library card - making reading an ongoing adventure for all the children and w wonderful way to encourage independence, decision-making, and a love for reading. 💭📖

Our lunch time is as nutritious as it is tasty with our new autumn menu! 🍂🍁

Naomi Szakacs, our in-house nutritionist, has worked alongside our chefs to create delicious, healthy recipes that foster lifelong healthy eating habits.

We believe that a great meal is a cornerstone of a great day at nursery. Our vision is to prepare children for life, and this includes active and healthy eating habits.

📄 Featured Recipe: Haddock Tagine with Peppers, Butternut, Coriander & Tomato Served with Quinoa and Green Beans

✏️ Ingredients for a family of four (2 adults and 2 children):
500g butternut squash, peeled and cubed
1 medium onion, sliced (or 1 large onion)
2 long red peppers, sliced
1 tin plum tomatoes
1 tin coconut milk
1 L water
500 g skinned and chopped haddock
Corn flour (for thickening, if desired)
Optional for serving: Fresh coriander

Curry Paste:
1 medium onion
2 to 3 cloves garlic (or about 2 to 3 teaspoons minced)
1 to 2 teaspoons minced ginger (adjust to taste)
1 bunch coriander stalks
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 preserved lemon
3 teaspoons mild curry powder
1 teaspoon turmeric and paprika
Pinch of pepper and salt
4 tablespoons olive oil

👩‍🍳 Method:
Curry Paste: In a food processor, blend the onion, garlic, ginger, coriander stalks, brown sugar, preserved lemon, mild curry powder, turmeric, paprika, salt, and olive oil until smooth.
Reserve half of the curry paste for future use, label it, and freeze (it can be used within a month).
Heat olive oil in a large pot over low/medium heat. Pour in the curry paste and stir constantly until it cooks out moisture and begins to brown slightly.
Add the plum tomatoes, water, butternut squash, and red peppers. Cook for about 30–40 minutes on medium heat until thickened and the butternut is tender.
About 10 minutes before serving, add the haddock and simmer on low. If you want to thicken the sauce, mix a bit of corn flour with water and stir in. Finish with freshly chopped coriander just before serving.

Celebrating Sukkot with our community 🍋🌿

We had a meaningful Sukkot celebration at Lauderdale Road Synagogue, where our children learned about the mitzvot of the holiday. Led by Morah Orah, they learned about the Four Species—lulav, etrog, hadas, and aravah— using all of their senses!

They also learned the importance of ‘Hachnasat Orchim’ in welcoming guests into the sukkah. This enriching event provided a wonderful opportunity to foster kindness and generosity while strengthening our connections within the community.

Our teachers participated in a dynamic training session focused on improving relationships with parents and maximising communication opportunities.

This workshop centered around practical scenarios, such as pick-up and drop-off interactions, verbal or written feedback and even displays.

Teachers engaged in role-playing exercises to simulate real-life situations. Participants payed close attention to body language, the exchange of information, and the positive relationships modelling. The goal was to explore effective communication strategies and to reflect on how these interactions impact our relationships with families.

The session allowed teachers to gain hands-on experience and immediate feedback. By discussing and reflecting on each scenario, we were able to identify best practices and areas for improvement, enhancing our ability to foster strong, supportive relationships with the families we work with.

Early and effective communication builds trust and helps to smooth the transition for both children and families, making the settling-in period more manageable.

This training reinforces our commitment to creating a welcoming environment. Establishing long-lasting positive relationships is a key priority for the La Petite Nursery Team.

This week, our little stars had an out-of-this-world experience learning about space! Through an immersive adventure, children “visited” NASA Space Camp, watched a space rocket blasting off and crossing the atmosphere, then traveled through space.🚀🪐🛰️

Throughout the space travel, our curious learners showed incredible knowledge as they recognised the names and unique features of the stars in our solar system.
